Celebrating “Bloomsday” in June with Our Caring Cross Celtic Jewelry Piece

June is a time of rich Irish tradition in the streets of Dublin and around the world because the month brings us Bloomsday, a festive celebration of the Irish writer James Joyce. Here at Walker Metalsmiths, we wanted to use our craft to capture the essence of the Celtic spirit this month, and we are proud to present our Caring Cross Celtic Jewelry Piece.

Bloomsday: A Rich Irish Tradition
Bloomsday is celebrated every June 16, and this special holiday commemorates
the life of James Joyce, who is widely regarded as one of the most influential writers of the 20th century. Joyce was born in Dublin, Ireland and while he spent many years outside of Ireland, most of his works take place in his homeland. In 1922, Joyce published his iconic novel Ulysses, which would later become his signature work. Ulysses takes place in Dublin on June 16, 1904, and follows a main character named Leopold Bloom, hence the name and date of the holiday Bloomsday.

Bloomsday has been celebrated in some form for decades, and now, the tradition includes readings and reenactments from Ulysses, as well as musical performances, Irish feasts, and celebratory drinks. It’s common to see people dressed up as Joyce and his characters, and the traditions of Bloomsday have long been celebrated not only in Dublin, where the novel takes place, but also around the world.

Celebrating Tradition with the Caring Cross Celtic Jewelry Piece
Just as Joyce preserved the spirit and essence of Celtic and Irish heritage in his
celtic jewelry pieces works, we seek to celebrate the same spirit and essence in our Celtic jewelry pieces. Our original, authentic Celtic designs are hand-crafted and draw from centuries of rich traditions. To celebrate the month of June in our own way, we created the Caring Cross Celtic Jewelry piece, which is designed to celebrate the special nurses, doctors, and other caregivers in your life. This hand-crafted Celtic Cross comes in two sizes, small and large, and is suited for both men and women.

This Celtic necklace is an original design of Walker Metalsmiths, and it draws on the inspiring and rich symbolism of the Celtic cross. Here at Walker Metalsmiths, from our shop in the foothills of Andover, New York, we have been working for years to understand and document the traditions and history surrounding the Celtic cross, which is legendary, powerful, and has a variety of interpretations. The pieces we create are a direct result of our understanding and appreciation for the traditions that this symbol, and other Celtic symbols carry.

Preserving Celtic Tradition with Our Pieces
Here at Walker Metalsmiths, our life’s work is the creation of these hand-crafted Celtic Jewelry pieces, which preserve and celebrate Celtic tradition. Aside from our Caring Cross, we have a wide range of original creations we are proud to offer you, including rings, earrings, bracelets, and pieces with birthstones and precious gems.

custom designed Celtic JewelryWe can also work with you to create the custom piece of your dreams and are happy to re-use your gold and gemstones to create a new, unique piece. In fact, we are so skillful at reusing old gold that we can often work with gold that other jewelers are unable to work with.

Bloomsday is a unique celebration of James Joyce and the Celtic tradition around the world, and each June, we are reminded of how rich and special these traditions are. It brings us great joy to celebrate Celtic traditions during Bloomsday, and it also brings us great joy to celebrate this month in our own, special way.
